MOVIES and BOOKS

LET'S GO TO THE MOVIES

On the second Saturday of each month, we get together to see a really good movie.  Jennifer Sellers researches our choices of films available that weekend and puts out a list with a short synopsis of each film from which the core "movie club" members choose. We tend to pick "art house" films showing at the Angelica Theaters in either Dallas or Plano, but we have gone to more main stream wide releases when something really good comes along.  Once the movie is selected, Jennifer lets us all know by email, which movie was selected, where it is showing and what time.

After the show, some, if not all of the group go out to dinner at a nearby restaurant to
discuss the movie and, of course, politics.

If this sounds like fun to you, contact Jennifer Sellers (972) 231-8338, to be put on her contact list.

LIKE TO READ & DISCUSS BOOKS?

Then you need to join our book club that meets on the 2nd Tuesday of every other month.

Nancy Brumley coordinates the club, so if you would like to join us and be put on the list to be contacted about the books chosen, and reminders of the meeting, please contact Nancy (972) 644-3058.
We meet at Lenna Webb's home, 17201 Hidden Glen Drive, Dallas.  Click for map.

We are a pretty informal club, but we do discuss the book, not just visit. We usually have someone lead the discussion with specific questions of a literary nature. Members attending bring snacks, desserts, wine, etc. to share during the evening.

Recent books we have read and discussed are The Girl With the Dragoon Tatoo by Steig Larson, The Help by Kathryn Stockett, Texas Tornado, by Dallas's own Louise Raggio, The Story of Edgar Sawtell, New York Times bestseller and first novel from David Wroblewski., Midwives, by Chris Bohjalian, A Thousand Splendid Suns, by Khaled Hosseini; Waiting for Snow in Havana, Peace Not Apartide, by Jimmy Carter; Water for Elephants; Lush Life; and The Nine by Jeffery Toobin.  As you can see we like a diverse selection and we select books by consensus of the members present.
