The North Dallas chapter of the Texas Democratic
Women was founded in October of 2002 after Harriet Miller put a call
out to Democratic women to come together in her home. More of us than
she thought possible showed up at her home to talk about starting a
chapter of TDW. The photo below shows some of those founding
members. (Starting at top left: Harriet Miller, Jane Davie, Windy

Gray, Linda Camin, Nancy Brumley and Barb Taylor).
With Harriet Miller serving as our first President, we picked up members quickly and formed officially
getting our charter from the Texas Democratic Women in February, 2003. Our constitutional purpose is to promote the increased political activity of Democratic women in Texas politics and government. In April of 2004 we became a General Purpose Political Action Committee (GPAC) so that we could raise money for political purposes.
When Harriet Miller decided to run for public office in 2004, Windy Warner succeeded her as President and the club got behind Harriet in an uphill battle to unseat an entrenched Texas House member, Tony Goolsby. We have since worked for Harriet again in 2006. In 2008 we were we helped get member Carol Kent elected for that seat.
Carol is not the only candidate or public office holder who belongs to NDTDW. Judge Sally Montgomery was one of the first Democrats to be elected county wide in 2004. Since then we have added Judge Loraine Raggio, Judge Lynn Cherry, Judge Carlos Cortez (yes we take men), Dallas County Democratic Party Chair Darlene Ewing, Dallas County Clerk Gary Fitzsimmons and Judge Jeff Rosenfield, Judge Tina Yoo, Judge Elizaberth Crowder, Judge Lori Hockett and Judge Jeanine Howard and more seem to be joining every day! Of course they are looking forward to the 2010 elections.
